Kilts are a medium sized cat, weights ranging similar to that of Munchkins, and are known for their sweet and gentle temperments. They are very social and make great family companions.
A Scottish Fold Munchkins have been accepted by TICA as an experimental breed and are now called Scottish Kilts. It is a cross between a Scottish Fold and a Munchkin cat in hopes of producing Scottish Fold folded ears and Munchkin short leg kittens.
A Standard Munchkin is a cat characterized by its short legs and kitten like personality that lasts well into it's adult life.
Recognized as an official breed by The International Cat Association (TICA) in 1995, Munchkins have actually been around since the 1940's. Munchkin's get their short legs from a genetic mutation that has been met with great controversy. It is hard to have a 'true' breed as the most common practice is to breed a long legged to a short legged cat (although some breeders have bred short to short with no issue). Breeding two short legs together makes for smaller litters as a fertilized egg that gets two short legged genes will not develope in the womb. The plus side of Munchkin genetics is we get to experience an array of short legged variations that include but are not limited to; Minuets, Minskins, Genettas and Scottish Kilts(Munchkin fold).
Despite their short stature, Munchkins can run, jump, and play like any other cat.
Munchkins come in a vast variety of coat legth and colors. They are a small to medium cat and usually mature around 5 - 9 pounds.
Our Day&Night cattery also breed munchkin toy.
